Emergency Information

You are here

Lehigh University Police officers respond to all emergency situations and complaints.

In the event of fire or smoke, pull the nearest alarm and call:

  • On-Campus / University Phone - x84200

  • Off campus/Public phone - 610.758.4200 or 911

  • Bethlehem Fire Department - 610.865.7171 or 911

Also, throughout the University campus you will find emergency phones to be used for any kind of emergency or intercampus phone information.

What to do during a medical emergency:

  • Call Lehigh University Campus Safety at 8-4200 (on-campus) or (610) 758-4200 (off-campus).

  • Give the dispatcher as much information as possible regarding the nature of the injury/illness, whether or not the victim is conscious, etc.

  • DO NOT hang up until directed to do so by the dispatcher, so that the information can be forwarded to the emergency personnel.

  • After making the emergency call:

    • Return to the victim.

    • Keep the victim as calm and comfortable as possible.

    • Remain with the victim until police officers arrive.

    • You may provide First Aid, CPR and use an AED if such equipment is available, you have been trained, and you can do so safely and appropriately.

Important medical emergency numbers:

All police officers are trained in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. In the event of a medical emergency, all officers respond to the scene and assess the situation, provide transportation, or summon an ambulance to transport the patient to our medical center or to a local hospital for treatment.

In addition, Lehigh University Emergency Medical Services (LU EMS), a student volunteer organization, provides medical first response for all emergencies on campus. LU EMS is funded through the Student Senate and works in partnership with the Campus Safety Division to coordinate training, resource sharing, communications and emergency response.

LU EMS functions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when school is in session and is dispatched by the LU Campus Safety. Currently, LU EMS has approximately 20 members, but always seeks additional students, faculty and staff who are certified as Emergency Medical Technicians in Pennsylvania or elsewhere.

For more information, check out the LU EMS web site .
